How to fix your problem of performing at low profile presenters

I hate seeing artists stuck in the low-profile zone for concerts when getting to high profile is pretty simple.

Assuming the artist is world-class, but hasn’t been noticed, it typically comes down to their own network.

Their network of people is most likely way too small and they have not associated themselves with the gatekeepers along the way. In fact, they probably don’t even know the names of the gatekeepers.

So it’s not surprising they’re stuck.

To break their way into the big leagues, they need to start networking aggressively, attending events, and making connections with influential people in the industry. It's all about building relationships and gaining visibility.

I know many artists who are particularly stuck think they can simply outsource this to a publicist or agency. They think a traditional publicist will fix this problem. I can assure you that’s the most misguided thing you can ever contemplate.

I see this all the time in my professional work. Artists look to land press coverage assuming that’s the silver bullet. But in reality, press for artists in the USA is typically only reserved for the top 1% of artists. And even the 1% can’t always receive coverage.

You can’t rely on this traditional model. You’ve got to use the audience-building tools you have in your possession already — social, email, word-of-mouth. Get those firing on all cylinders.

Press coverage is simply a leading indicator of the hard work you’ve already done in building your loyal audience.

So start with building your fans up.
